CITY OF TUCUMCARI

SPECIAL COMMISSION MEETING

SEPTEMBER 20, 2007

The Tucumcari City Commission met in Special Session on Thursday, September 20, 2007, at 5:45 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers. Members present constituting a quorum were Christopher Maestas, Jim Lafferty, Antonio Apodaca, and Jim Witcher. Mayor Mayfield was absent.

City staff members present were John R. Sutherland, City Manager; Jeannette Maddaford, City Clerk/Assistant Finance Director; Mike Cherry, Fire Chief; Charlie Sandoval, Water Superintendent; Joe Ramirez, Wastewater Superintendent; and Alex Madrid, Street and Sanitation Superintendent.

Mayor Protem Antonio Apodaca called the meeting to order and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

New Business

Ross Harmon, Lodgers’ Tax Advisory Board Chairman, presented a recommendation from the Board to award Tucumcari Main Street $1,000 for their Six Shooter Siding Festival slated for October 13, 2007. A copy of the budget was presented for the event and Harmon stated that there was money in reserve to cover the expense. A motion was made by Commissioner Witcher and seconded by Commissioner Lafferty to approve the awarding of $1,000 to Tucumcari Main Street. Roll Call:

City Manager John Sutherland presented the Consultant Services Agreement with Daniel Lopez, which was prepared by the City’s Attorney. The document was developed to work with PERA’s requirements which will allow the City to put Daniel Lopez to work for the City Police Department. Commissioner Apodaca asked if the City was protected in case of a lawsuit and Mr. Sutherland acknowledged the City was. A motion was made by Commissioner Witcher and seconded by Commissioner Maestas to approve the Consultant Services Agreement. Roll Call:
