The City of Tucumcari is currently accepting applications for the following positions.

Police Officer - Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Law enforcement experience and certification is preferred, but not required.  Written, oral, and physical agility testing will be administered, must be a US citizen, no felony convictions, and must possess good verbal and writing skills. Must also pass all phases of testing to be considered for position. Interested applicants for all openings must have a High School diploma or GED and a valid New Mexico driver’s license with no major driving infractions.  Applicants must be willing to submit to a post offer pre-employment drug and alcohol test. Convention Center Director -  This position acts as the marketing and sales director for the City of Tucumcari and Convention center to increase gross receipts and lodgers’ tax revenue.  This position will serve to market the convention center by coordinating advertising, recruiting convention center users, and promoting Tucumcari.  The position oversees all operations at the convention center to include event coordination and set up, bar operations, budgeting, scheduling, and supervision of employees.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS preferred include Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hospitality, or a related field; plus two (2) years of experience in marketing and management. Must be able to obtain an Alcohol Servers License within 3 months of hire.  Starting Salary is $28,766 per year.  Employment applications will be accepted through 5:00 p.m. on Friday June 5, 2015, or until the position is filled.

BASIC, EMT-I and PARAMEDICS - These positions require individuals who are able to respond to emergency care and rescue; maintain control, manage and direct patient care at the scene of a pre-hospital emergency; and perform other emergency medical procedures. Drives and/or manages the ambulance while on duty, operates in a safe manner while responding to the scene and during the transport of patients.  Applicants must possess Basic, EMT- I or Paramedic certification.  These positions will remain open.

Administrative Assistant/Grant Administrator - This position provides administrative and secretarial support for the Community Development office.  Applicant must be able to manage and coordinate various funding opportunities for the City of Tucumcari and provide support for planning and zoning issues along with other aspects involved in the office.   Applicants must be proficient in Word, Excel and Access; have strong written and verbal communication skills; and excellent organizational skills.  Employment applications will be accepted through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29th, 2015, or until the position is filled

Streets/Sanitation Department – Heavy Equipment Operator (Full Time) - Applicant must be able to work in outside weather conditions, and perform common labor work in the streets/sanitation department which will include the use of a shovel, lawn mower and weed eater, as well as repair and replace signs, in addition to various other duties, welding experience and ability to operate various types of trucks and heavy equipment desired.  Applications will be accepted through 5 PM on Friday,  May 29,2015.

Part-Time Library Clerk/Aide.  Interested applicants need to have general office and computer skills and be able to communicate clearly, effectively and courteously with management, co-workers, customers and visitors, in person and by telephone.  Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends and some holidays. The positions requires the ability to maintain balance and equilibrium while ascending or descending ladders and/or open stair, lift and carry up to 15 pounds; and is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Employment applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on May 8th,  or until the position is filled.

Lifeguards – Applicants must be 15 years of age or older to be considered, and must pass a lifeguard training course, and be able to work various hours, including weekends and some evenings.   Preference will be given to those with certification.  There are multiple lifeguard positions available. 

Temporary part-time employment for Ball Field Groundskeeper  - in the Recreation Department. Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age and must be able to operate various types of equipment.


Part-Time Recreation Aide - This position requires an individual who is able to enforce rules and regulations of recreational facilities, and oversee recreation areas, facilities and services during his/her assigned times.

PART-TIME ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER-This position has a 20 hour work week. Applicant is responsible to capture and impound unlicensed, stray, and uncontrolled animals, utilizing proper procedures, as well as investigating complaints, and destroying unclaimed animals.  Applicant must be willing to attend training/certification school on Animal Control and adhere to rules and regulations. 

Part-Time Cook- at the Tucumcari Senior Center.  This position will assist with food preparation, cooking, and serving meals and other meal related duties; packaging home delivered meals; and may deliver meals to homebound consumers.  This is classified as a part-time position, up to 25 hours per week.


This position is to receive and process emergency and nonemergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services. Determine the location and nature of the emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch police, fire, ambulance or other emergency units as necessary in accordance with established policy, procedures and guidelines. Receive and process 911 emergency calls, maintain contact with all units on assignment, maintain status and location of police, fire and medical units. Monitor and process direct emergency alarms, answer and process non-emergency calls for assistance. Enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems. Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age, and be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute.  This position will remain open until filled. 

BARTENDERS: Under administrative direction of the Convention Center Director candidates will work on an as needed basis, for numerous events. Must have servers license and experience is desired. Interested applicants must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license with no major driving infractions.  Applicants must be willing to submit to a post offer pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
